Born in 1977, in Le Plessis-Bouchard (France), Romain started in pole vaulting in 1992.
After obtaining his French « Bac » he studied engineering and graduated from the Public Engineering School « National Institute of Sciences Appliquées » in 2001.
In 1998, he became French indoor Champion, then in 1999, European Champion in the under -19 category.
In 2003, he was consecrated the worlds best performer with a 5m95 jump. Other successes followed and he was a finalist at the Athens 2004 Olympics.
In 2006, he was European Polevault Vice-Champion in Göteborg and in 2007, World Polevault Vice-Champion in Osaka.
In 2008, he became French indoor and outdoor Champion, and then in 2009 managed to keep his title of French indoor Champion.
In total, Romain was 7 times French Champion and 3 times winner of the European Athletics Cup.
He is also President of the Professional Athletes Union.
