Christian Montaignac was born in Montpellier on 1942. He is a prime example of the many French people from the provinces who have moved to Paris to achieve success. But it would be a mistake to compare him with Balzac's Rastignac. His ambitions have never been directed at career success.
Freshly retired from sports journalism after working for 37 years at "lEquipe" (as journalist, chief reporter, editorial writer and then editor in chief), Christian Montaignac has relied exclusively on his outstanding talent. There is a Montaignac style, reflected in his rigorous prose and in his sensitivity to the event taking place.
From the Olympic Games to the World Cup, he has covered all the major events, but he has also achieved recognition as a fine writer. He has written three novels: "Un parfum de lilas mouillé" (published by Editions du Rocher), "Chair de Blues" (Calmann-Lévy) and "Jentends brûler la neige" (Jean-Claude Lattès) and some essay : "De la belle aube au triste soir" and "Etoiles fuyantes" (Jean-Claude Lattès).
This outstanding professional has also received awards such as the "Grand Prix de la Littérature Sportive", the "Prix Antoine Blondin" and the "Grand Prix du meilleur article sportif".
Among his latest novels, there are "Cur de losers" (2008, Calmann-Levy) and « Petit traité de la connerie des sportifs et autres concernés » (2009, Editions Prolongations). Forthcoming title in April 2011 : « L'envol des culs blancs sous la lune . Nouvelles des bords de mer » (Romain Pages Editions).
Christian is also editorialist/counselor for the magazine "Attitude Rugby", and since 1973 write Lannée du rugby (Calmann-Lévy).
